Ramakrishna Mission School, Uripok
Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), the great founder of the worldwide Ramakrishna Mission, used to say that ‘education is the panacea for all social evils’.
By education he did not meant merely book learning. He said, “We must have life-building, man-making, character-making, assimilation of ideas,” and added, “we want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.”
It was his conviction that only through the right type of education, individuals can be transformed. It is by imparting man-making and character-building education, an individual becomes a complete man, a responsible citizen, which is the pressing need of today’s society.
This is the ideal of education which we try to put into effect at Ramakrishna Mission School, Uripok.
The School, therefore, endeavors to educate the students according to the best traditions of the country while instructing them in modern arts, sciences, crafts, etc. Students are encouraged and helped to grow in all directions – physically, mentally, intellectually, and morally. As we groom the students in academics we also try to attend to their all-round development so that they become strong and healthy citizens of the country being rooted in sound moral principles, learn to respect the higher values of life, and become aware of their obligation towards the society and its citizens.
